Introduction to Ledger Live® Desktop
Ledger Live® Desktop is the official companion application designed to work seamlessly with Ledger Wallet® hardware devices. It provides a secure interface that allows users to manage digital assets while ensuring private keys remain offline within the device’s Secure Element chip.
The desktop application is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, offering a unified experience for crypto investors of all levels.
Step 1: Download & Install
- Visit the official Ledger website.
- Download Ledger Live® Desktop for your operating system.
- Run the installer and follow setup instructions.
- Launch the application once installation is complete.
Always ensure you download the software from the official source to avoid phishing or counterfeit applications.
Step 2: Connect Your Ledger Wallet®
Use the provided USB cable to connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your desktop computer. Unlock the device using your secure PIN code.
Ledger Live® will automatically detect the connected device and verify its authenticity before allowing access.
Step 3: Initialize or Restore
New Device Setup
If this is your first time using the device, follow on-screen instructions to generate a 24-word recovery phrase and create a secure PIN.
Restore Existing Wallet
If restoring, carefully enter your existing 24-word recovery phrase directly on the device.
Managing Crypto Accounts
Once setup is complete, you can install cryptocurrency apps using the “Manager” section within Ledger Live®. Supported assets include:
- Bitcoin (BTC)
- Ethereum (ETH)
- Polygon (MATIC)
- Solana (SOL)
- Hundreds of additional tokens
Add accounts to begin sending and receiving funds securely.

Select your account, click “Receive,” and verify the wallet address on your Ledger device screen before sharing it.
Sending Crypto
Enter the recipient’s address in Ledger Live®, review transaction details carefully, and confirm directly on your hardware wallet.
